Assembled.
Reassembled.

Identity is not fixed — it's assembled, then reassembled, out of necessity, inheritance, and expectation. A year ago I felt the seams of that construction. The self I had built no longer matched the one underneath it, and the language I'd always used to close that gap — music — had gone quiet.

I picked up a pencil instead. No plan, no audience, no result to protect. Just the hand moving. I began filling sketchbook pages, and noticed something strange: any two pages, placed side by side, seemed to fit — like the work already knew its own shape before I did.

That discovery became a practice. Drawing gave way to painting; painting to sculpture. Each piece surfaced something I hadn't planned to look for — old wounds, family patterns, sudden joy — less like invention than excavation. A recurring form kept appearing across the work: an orb, small and insistent, a marker on the way back to myself.

I started to think of the pieces as artifacts, and myself as the one digging them up — fragmented figures, forms that felt like relics before they were even finished. A system, built to function as intended. I still wonder if it does. If we do.
